Influential People in Design and Development Research Paper and Presentation

Overview

Take any creative field and you’ll find well-known influencers who are responsible for leading the way, either with new interpretations, technical approaches or ideas. This is true whether you’re looking at David Bailey in the photography world, or Tracey Emin in fine art. It comes about because some practitioners define a movement or technique, either inventing it, championing it, or otherwise leading a charge towards it. Of course, the world of web design is no different.

Directions

You will research and type a paper on a well-known influential web designer, graphic designer, or programmer. You will then make a presentation on the person, explaining how they have influenced web design, graphic design, or programming.

2. Research the designer on the web and gather as much information you can about the designer.

3. Type a 2-3 page paper on the designer that includes:

  • The background information about the person
    (where they are from, how they got into web design, who influences them, etc..)
  • What makes them a well known/influential person in their career?
    (what have they done/created, what are they known for, who do they work for, their technique, did they champion a movement, what did they contribute to the field, etc..)
  • What is your opinion/reflection about the person in the field?
    (what have you learned, what techniques do you use from that person, do you agree/disagree with their theories, what did you find interesting, etc..)

4. Create a 5-7 minute oral and visual presentation on the Web Designer that includes:

  • The background information of the person
  • What makes them well-know/influential to the world of Web Design
  • Show examples of their work (this could include their company’s website)
  • What did you get out of researching this person

Requirements:

  • Use MLA Style guidelines
  • Paper should be 2-3 pages in length
  • 1” Margins all around
  • Double Spaced
  • 12pt Times New Roman Font
  • Use proper spelling and grammar
  • Written in your own words.
  • At least 3 internal citations should be used throughout the paper (May all be online sources)
  • A Work Cited Page is attached with at least 3 sources (That does not count towards the 2-3 pages) (May all be online sources)

Research Guide

To help you organize your paper, I have included the topics you should research and write about. They should be discussed and expanded upon in this order:

  • The first 25% of the paper should be an introduction/background information
  • The body which is the second part of the paper should take up about 50% of the paper which is all about the web designer
  • The last part of the paper should take up 25%, which includes your reflection/opinion/closing.

Students will be graded on their Rough Draft, Research Paper and Presentations using the rubrics below.
