Web Design and Interactive Media

Program Description

The three-year student enrolled in this program will participate in an exciting program of study exploring computers in Internet- based technologies. This class is for students who want to learn about the current technology in web applications. They learn advanced skills in photo-editing using Adobe Photoshop, animation using Adobe Flash, multimedia using Adobe Premier, Web Design editing using Adobe Dreamweaver, and coding techniques and development with HTML and CSS. HTML is the language of the web and is the foundation to building websites. Students also study programming languages and XHTML to create dynamic web pages. Throughout the course students create and design web sites for a variety of clients in the community. This program includes instruction in internet theory, webpage standards and policies, elements of webpage design, user interfaces, vector tools, special effects, interactive and multimedia components, search engines, navigation, morphing, game design and development, e-commerce tools and emerging web technologies.

If the student has explored Web design and Web site creation in the past, this is an opportunity to move a skill set to the next level. For students interested in a career in communications, this program offers a study of techniques and technologies used with the largest communications medium on the planet! Upon completion of this course, students will possess:

  • an understanding of HTML, CSS, Javascript and other Web design technologies
  • an understanding of the role of content management systems
  • a broad perspective on the interactive, multimedia, Web 2.0, and communication environments, including issues of diversity and inclusiveness
  • the ability to create Web sites that are functional and well designed
  • the ability to produce engaging multimedia to accompany sites
  • create original artwork, digitally edited images, and graphic designs using design software
  • employ compositional terminology, design, and color theory to create a visually stimulating image
  • utilize software to create Web-ready optimized graphic, Web page slices, and basic animation.
