Exercise

Objective

In this exercise you will demonstrate the ability to thread text between Area type text boxes. You will also demonstrate the ability to wrap text around shapes.

Instructions

  1. Open the exercise file here.
  2. Save the file as an illustrator file named: Ch8Ex1_(YourInitials).ai
  3. You will use the area type tool to create a unique 4 column layout for a newsletter. Follow the instructions below:
  4. Use the Selection tool to click on the out port for the Area type text box to load it with text.
  5. Draw an additional Area type text box.
  6. Experiment with additional text boxes until all of the text is displayed. You might want to adjust font sizes and paragraph spacing, but don’t fine-tune the columns yet.
  7. Place a shape on the page and flow text around the shape. Tweak text-box sizes for appropriate breaks.
  8. Touch up the layout with a background.
  9. Save the file.
  10. Submit the file into the Network Drive when complete.
